NEWS BEATS

What’s Happening

The final two members to join SilhouetteBand are Johanne Levy and Michele Shaffer. Johanne adds a valuable new dimension to the band. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Johanne is a superb vocalist and musician. She is augmenting our backing vocals from a truly musical standpoint, which I believe adds so much more quality to the overall sound. Parts have been scored for her on clarinet, ukulele and support keyboard - on all of which she is most proficient.

Michele is a fine vocalist in her own right but in Silhouette she plays an important part in expanding the harmony options of the backing vocals.   She is the one responsible for the theramin' sound in Good Vibrations and she and Johanne add percussion on various numbers. We are now a full complement and able to tackle many of the diverse styles of the 60s - and confident that we can achieve a measure of authenticity.

Welcome Johanne and Michele.

THE POWER OF THE PEN        written during the covid-19 crisis      2020

How does a vibrant band like Silhouette keep moving forward during the current emergency that we are all having to endure? Of course live gigs are put on hold for obvious reasons but we have all worked very hard to take this opportunity to become involved in several activities that that will enhance our repertoire and hope will give our growing number of fans much pleasure.

During  the last few weeks we have all been involved with a MUSICAL PLAY penned by a lovely elderly lady, Joyce, wishing to fulfil a lifelong dream. It is a story written around the characters in the songs composed and performed by a well known 60s band. The storyline is linked by the songs - and these we have been busy recording in isolation.

Although the author has commissioned this work for her own personal pleasure, the need for us to arrange and record the music has presented Silhouette with a great opportunity to improve its repertoire in time for post Covid-19 performances.

We also now have extra material for our forthcoming album release.

Of course new music needs arranging and committing to paper. This task has been undertaken by our keyboard player Angela who has dusted off her trusty pen, put on her thinking cap - and come up with a raft of new arrangements, not just for the play, but also extra material to accommodate one of our latest great additions to the band - Bronwen on violin

Recording in isolation? You may ask!  Maybe you'd like to take a quick peek at a couple of music videos we have recorded during lockdown using this method.

RADIO BROADCAST

Recently we had an interesting interview on Angel Radio - based near Portsmouth - but broadcasting far and wide. One of our Carols - Carol Jason - fronted the band and gave a great account of how we all came together, our current activities and  - our plans for the immediate future. Three of our recorded songs were broadcast for the first time on live radio. We had some great feedback from the listeners. Carol recently broadcast on All FM and is due to speak on Oldham Local Radio at the end of the month.
